Caution: All glassware, stoppers, and sampling tools must be scrupulously clean, and it is desirable to soak them in hot running water after cleaning. Phenolic plastic closures on reagent bottles may cause phenolic contamination and their use should be avoided.
Collection of Sample
Proceed as in 925.20 (see 33.2.01), except to be assured that no preservative is present and not >48 h has elapsed between time of sampling and receipt at laboratory. If samples are refrigerated, avoid freezing.

Permanent Phenol Standards

Prepare permanent color standards equivalent to phenol concentrations of 0.01–0.15 mg/0.5 mL sample by combining quantities of color solutions (a)–(c) indicated in Table 935.40 and diluting to 10 mL with H2O in each case; e.g., 0.3 mL solution (a) + 0.106 mL solution (b) ± 0.96 mL solution (c) + H2O to make 10 mL is equivalent to phenol concentration of 0.01 mg in 0.5 mL sample.
