Abstract
This chapter examines the Jewish revolts in Judaea and their consequences, taking into account their impact on the attitudes of Roman emperors. The primary effects were not on the entire Near East but on Judaea specifically as the host of the Great Revolt and the Bar Kochba uprising. Several key consequences are examined: first, the changes in Judaea’s administration from an appendage to the province of Syria before ad 66 to, eventually, an independent consular province; second, transformations to the Roman imperial presence in the region; third and finally, how the rebellions affected imperial attitudes to the Jewish people more broadly.
