Publication dates

Digital edition publication dates

New titles are uploaded to Oxford Academic regularly, and upload lists are available online.

eBooks usually publish simultaneously with or soon after the print edition.

Printed edition publication dates

Key dates to be aware of:

Stock release date

The date when the printed book arrives at the warehouse and orders can begin shipping to distributors and stores, including Amazon. The stock release date is generally two to four weeks ahead of the publication date.

Publication date

The date from which individual customers can purchase and receive copies. Please note that publication dates may vary from country to country, primarily because of shipping time between warehouses around the globe.

Individuals interested in purchasing the printed version of your book can buy it from our e-commerce website.

Digital edition access

Institutional access

Does your institution subscribe? If so and you are on campus, IP authentication often happens automatically. Alternatively, you can click “sign in through your institution” and select yours from the list. See our access pages for more information.

If you would like to order copies of your book please contact our customer service team. As an OUP author, a discount of 40% can be applied to orders of a maximum of 10 copies of most OUP books.

Spreading the word about your book

We have a global marketing team working to connect with readers and customers, however, as the author, you are the best advocate for your work. In addition to the activities outlined in Self-promotion, such as Events and Social media posts, there are a few simple steps we encourage you to take to spread the wordw about your publication.

Recommend to your librarian

If you work at, or are affiliated to, a higher education or research institution, then please do tell your library about your book publication if it will be of interest to students and researchers. You can do that easily by completing our online form.

Link and cite

Increasingly, linking is important for the discoverability of content online. Do remember that including links to your book publication from any content you provide on the open web will, in turn, help to improve your work’s search rankings and allow it to become much more discoverable by your audience.

Explore and understand metrics

Did you know that you can explore the impact of your book by checking the metrics displayed on its homepage? You can see your book’s views, citations, and its Altmetric and Dimensions scores. For more information, please read our metrics guidance.

Translations

We license more than 1000 translation deals per year. Find out more about this growing programme of work and information on our processes.

If your title has translation potential, for instance it has been previously translated or you have a strong lead, then please send the publisher name (ideally with contact details), plus the language to translation.rights@oup.com and we will endeavour to take these leads forward.

Stay in touch

This is the just the “end of the beginning” of your relationship with OUP. We will be working on the discoverability, sales, and distribution of your book for years, and we also look forward to publishing more of your work in the future.  For questions about new editions or paperback editions please contact your Acquisitions Editor. All new editions will be subject to the normal proposal approval process.

We hope that you will consider OUP as a home for your next publication, and would welcome hearing about new proposals or initiatives.
