ABSTRACT

45Ca kinetic studies performed on patients with Paget's Disease before and after treatment with sodium fluoride 60 mg/day, revealed reduction in the exchangeable calcium pool, bone accretion, and bone resorption rates.

The decrease in bone accretion rates appear to be primarily a reflection of the decrease in the size of the exchangeable calcium pool. Bone biopsy studies showed wide, poorly calcined osteoid seams. Calcium balance became more positive in five of the six patients.
