In 206 healthy young adult males, the intramuscular administration of 40 U ACTH-gel produced significant increases in parotid fluid 17-hydroxycorticosteroid levels 1 and 2 hr after dosage. The parotid fluid steroid assay is presented as a nonstressful screening procedure in evaluating adrenocortical function. These data are offered as physiologic base lines for comparison in suspected adrenal disorders.
