This Handbook bears witness to the dedication and hard work of many. We are deeply grateful to the dozens of colleagues around the country who responded enthusiastically to our call—placed when Covid-19 was still wreaking havoc on everybody’s lives. They submitted their early outlines, came to the workshop to discuss them, drafted their chapters, responded to feedback, and in the end delivered their fully formed chapters, all with exemplary professionalism. It has been a joy to work with you all. Now that the Dutch political science community has joined up to produce this common pool resource, let’s keep collaborating to make sure it gets used widely, and gets updated over time. Our editor at Oxford University Press, the indomitable Dominic Byatt, deserves a big thank you for his faith in the project and his unwavering support throughout the process of bringing it to fruition. Our research assistant Teun Langeveld was of immense help in the final stages of beating the manuscript into shape.
While proofreading this book, we learned the sad news of the passing of our colleague Rudy B. Andeweg, who was also a contributor to this handbook. We shall dearly miss him as a leading social scientist in the study of Dutch politics, and even more as a mentor and friend.
