Abstract
This chapter suggests ways forward in the global governance of space activities. It presents the major international initiatives in this area in the last two decades and describes the corresponding positions of different states or groups of states. While highlighting the different priorities, it seeks to explain why finding consensus on international agreements in the areas of space security, safety, and sustainability proves to be challenging. After providing an overview of recent trends in the space sector, the chapter suggests areas in which small steps could be taken with a view to advancing the governance of space activities at global level.
