Christine Maguth Nezu, PhD, ABPP, is professor of psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences and professor of medicine in the School of Medicine at Drexel University. She has maintained a private practice as a licensed psychologist for over 25 years and is board-certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) in clinical as well as in cognitive and behavioral psychology. She is also a program consultant to the Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington, DC, as well as a program consultant for the Joint Programs of the Departments of Veterans Affairs and Defense, and a past president of the ABPP. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology, the Academy of Clinical Psychology, and the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, and she is the recipient of the 2014 ABPP Award for Distinguished Contributions.
Dr. Maguth Nezu has authored or coauthored over 125 scholarly publications, including 18 books, and is the coeditor of several distinguished book series. Her publications cover a wide range of topics in mental health and behavioral medicine, many of which have been translated into a variety of foreign languages. She is considered an international expert regarding cognitive-behavioral assessment and treatment, and embraces an evidence-based approach to clinical intervention, advocating the use of an individual case formulation as a bridge between science and practice.
Dr. Maguth Nezu was also a member of the board of directors for the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and a representative for that organization to the World Congress Committee for Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies. She was a board member and representative to ABPP for the Academy of Cognitive & Behavioral Psychology and received the 2011 ABPP Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Specialty of Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology, which was jointly sponsored by the Cognitive & Behavioral Board and Academy.
Although her contributions cover many areas of clinical psychology, it is her collective work as the codeveloper of contemporary problem-solving therapy and its current application as a transdiagnostic and evidence-based intervention, as well as to programs for both active service members and veterans, that has brought her national and international recognition.
With regard to this level of recognition, Dr. Nezu has served as a distinguished visiting professor, consultant, and trainer for the US Air Force, the FBI, and for universities around the world and served on the editorial board of several professional journals in the United States and abroad.
Arthur M. Nezu, PhD, DHL (Hon.), ABPP, is distinguished university professor of psychology, professor of medicine, and professor of community health and prevention at Drexel University in Philadelphia. He is the current editor of the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, a current associate editor for the Archives of Scientific Psychology, and past editor of The Behavior Therapist. Dr. Nezu previously was president of the Association for the Advancement of Behavior Therapy (ABCT; now known as the Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies), the American Board of Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology (ABCBP), and the Behavioral Psychology Specialty Council. He also served as chair of the board of directors of the World Congress of Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies (WCBCT) and trustee and secretary of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). Dr. Nezu is board certified by ABPP in cognitive and behavioral psychology, clinical psychology, and clinical health psychology. He is a fellow of multiple professional organizations, including the American Psychological Association (APA), the American Psychological Society, the Society of Behavior Medicine, and the Academy of Cognitive Therapy.
Dr. Nezu has received awards from the WCBCT, ABCBP, ABCT, and the American Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology. An annual award for an outstanding doctoral dissertation in diversity was named in his honor by the ABPP. Dr. Nezu received an honorary doctoral degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and recently received the Florence Halpern Award for Distinguished Professional Contributions to Clinical Psychology by the Society of Clinical Psychology (Division 12 of the American Psychological Association). He is the codeveloper of contemporary problem-solving therapy, which is considered an evidenced-based intervention by numerous professional and government organizations. His research has been sponsored by the Veterans Administration, the National Cancer Institute, and the National Institute of Mental Health. Dr. Nezu has also served as a research and clinical consultant to numerous national and international academic institutions, as well as US government agencies, including the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense. He has published over 200 research and professional journals articles and book chapters, as well as 22 books on a wide variety of topics.
