Book cover for The Oxford Handbook of Sound Studies The Oxford Handbook of Sound Studies

We would like to thank all of the contributors to this volume not only for their hard intellectual work in preparing their chapters and for their forbearance in meeting our many deadlines but also for their detailed comments on each other’s chapters made during the Sound Studies Conference held at Maastricht, November 21–22, 2009. We are also grateful to the Research Program Science, Technology, and Society of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Maastricht University for its generous funding and hosting of the conference. We could not have organized the meeting without the excellent assistance provided by Lidwien Hollanders and Sabine Kuipers. We also owe a deep debt of gratitude to our editor, Norman Hirschy, for his patience, perspicacity, and excellent advice in helping us with every phase of the production of this volume. We would also like to thank Norm for attending the Sound Studies Conference and for providing detailed comments on all of the chapters. In addition, we thank the various anonymous referees who at different stages reviewed this collection. Finally, we express our thanks to Ton Brouwers for correcting the English of the chapters written by nonnative speakers.
