Abstract
In this article, Nadir Yata, argues that the relationship between Sub-Saharan African nations and Morocco has recently started to thaw. After having left the Organization of African Unity over the struggle for the Western Sahara in 1984, Morocco’s relationship with members of the OAU were tense. In this piece, Yata argues that this tension was largely fomented by Algerian officials seeking to further Algerian hegemony over the Maghreb. Now, Algeria’s recent turn towards the Middle East, Yata argues, leaves room for Morocco to turn back towards Africa.
