It was a great privilege to serve as President of the American Association of Immunologists from July 2021 through June 2022. This was an important time for both our society and the public. We transitioned through the worst of a historic pandemic that highlighted the importance of immunology to the world. Recognizing this, the AAI Council voted to expand our mission while continuing to provide a forum and opportunities for our members. We agreed that the AAI should also be outward facing with the goal of becoming a trusted voice for the general community around a broad range of scientific and immunologic topics. I hope you have read about this new initiative in the AAI Newsletter (https://bit.ly/3ibUNY8). It is well underway and will hopefully gain traction over the years. The other major change for our society was a transition in leadership as our chief executive officer (CEO), Dr. Michele Hogan, decided to step down after 27 y of outstanding service. After a thorough search, the AAI Council and staff were thrilled to welcome Dr. Loretta Doan as our new CEO in January 2023. We are looking forward to her leadership as AAI moves forward in its service to our community. I cannot thank my fellow councilors and the outstanding AAI staff enough for their help during this tumultuous year.
