ABSTRACT
Lipid analyses, lipoprotein electrophoreses, glucose tolerance tests and growth hormone levels were obtained in 24 acromegalic individuals. Definite type IV hyperlipoproteinemia was observed only in two subjects, both of whom had overt diabetes mellitus. Although mean triglyceride and cholesterol levels were normal for the remaining 22 patients, 5 of them had mild hyperglyceridemia. The hyperglyceridemia may simply represent the incidence of elevated triglyceride levels in the general population. This study suggests that non-diabetic acromegalics do not have an increased incidence of hyperlipidemia.
