Abstract

The iv administration of 0.5, 2 and 10 IU synthetic oxytocin, 2 IU synthetic vasopressin, and 2 U posterior pituitary extract each failed to result in an increase in serum concentrations of immunoreactive FSH and LH in a group of 8 healthy adult men. The 2 IU dose of oxytocin was also ineffective in subjects pretreated with synthetic estrogen or androgen. The expected effects of oxytocin and vasopressin with respect to blood pressure, heart rate and skin color were noted in all subjects.
