ISSY38: Yeast – the Omni Tool

31st May 2025

Thematic Issue for ISSY38: Yeast – the Omni Tool

FEMS Yeast Research is publishing a thematic issue to coincide with the 38th International Specialised Symposium on Yeast: ISSY38: Yeast – the Omni Tool, which will be held in Warsaw, Poland, 1 to 5 September 2025. This conference has an excellent line-up of international speakers and covers a diverse range of themes with Saccharomyces and non-Saccharomyces yeasts. Registration is now open and all yeast researchers are encouraged to register now to secure a spot.

Key themes of ISSY38

  • Molecular mechanisms of eukaryotic cells using yeast

  • Advances and application of yeast hight throughput screens

  • Metabolism and metabolomics

  • Fermentation, food, and beverages

  • Yeast in population and evolution models

  • Humanized yeast in health research

This thematic issue is being co-ordinated by guest editors Prof Zbigniew Lazar, Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences, Poland and Prof Ewelina Celińska, Poznan University of Life Sciences, Poland and will comprise a set of commissioned mini-review articles on topics related to themes of the conference as well as articles submitted by delegates. Accordingly, the guest editors and the journal invites ISSY38 delegates and attendees to submit manuscripts on any yeast topic that is within the scope of the journal. Accepted articles will be added to the special issue, which will be launched and promoted in Q4 2025.

Since January 2024, FEMS Yeast Research is a fully open access journal. This means that all previously published content is free to read from this date. It also means that all accepted articles will be subject to an Article Processing Charge (APC). Authors from institutions that have Read and Publishing agreements with Oxford University Press are entitled to APC waivers. Members of FEMS affiliated societies, authors who have recently published with the journal, and authors who have reviewed for the journal are also entitled to substantial APC discounts.

FEMS Yeast Research is also pleased to offer an additional 10 APC waivers to ISSY38 conference delegates who are not otherwise entitled to a waiver. These will be allocated on a “first-come, first-served basis” so authors whose submission depends on receipt of such a waiver should email the Editor in Chief, Prof John Morrissey, prior to submission to reserve a waiver – subject of course to the manuscript being accepted following the standard peer review process.

For instructions on submitting a manuscript please see the FEMS Yeast Research author guidelines. The cover letter should indicate which of the paper’s authors will attend IISSY38, and “ISSY38 Special Issue” should be selected from the drop-down thematic issue menu. The cover letter should also indicate whether an APC waiver is being requested. Prospective authors should also consult the journal guidelines on the website and note that FEMS Yeast Research will only accept papers that report significant advances in yeast biology.
