Abstract
Since the original discovery (1,2) that implantation of anterior lobe tissue stimulated precocious sexual maturity in immature rodents, this method has been used to test the gonadotropic potency of the pituitaries of animals in various conditions (3, 4, 5). By utilization of this technic, the following data has been obtained concerning the influence of the injection of a synthetic androgenic substance, testosterone propionate, upon the gonadotropic potency of the anterior pituitaries of normal and castrated male and female rats. Moore and Price (6) have previously reported that injection of androsterone decreased the stimulating potencies of the pituitaries of young male rats.
