The theme of this year’s special issue and of The Endocrine Society’s annual meeting is “The Impact of the Human Genome on Endocrinology.” It provides an exciting opportunity to incorporate genetic research into the field of Endocrinology by use of a number of venues available through The Endocrine Society. Endocrinology is pleased to take part in the effort to familiarize endocrine investigators with the emerging area of genomics research analyses. The editors have identified leading experts who have contributed a number of perspectives, which span from descriptions of the basic concepts of genomics and its technology to examples of the application of genomics in endocrine-related responses or dysfunctions involving a spectrum of hormones or tissues. Additionally, we have a special section composed of submitted and reviewed manuscripts accepted for publication, which focus on genomics analysis or its use in describing endocrine-related responses or dysfunctions involving a spectrum of hormones or tissues. It will be clear from our issue that genomics is a molecular technique that can and is being used to extend and broaden our scientific and technical analyses of endocrine hormone responses, actions, and mechanisms.
