Abstract
Based on philosophical insights regarding Thai music education from Phra Chao Yu Hua (the title of the Thai King)—His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, King Rama IX of Thailand—the author discusses four subjects: (1) the philosophical underpinnings of Thai music education; (2) Phra Chao Yu Hua; (3) His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s musical experiences; and (4) philosophical insights on Thai music education from Phra Chao Yu Hua. Phra Chao Yu Hua’s philosophical insights include the value of music, the need for creativity in music teaching, the importance of local music making, effective music teaching, the joy of music, music education through ensemble playing, the beauty and morality of music, and the unity of the Thai people in creative music making. The author argues that adopting these philosophical insights could offer new perspectives on music making.
