Abstract
This chapter discusses a small number of highly significant sites where wetland research has contributed to the understanding of sacred sites, the definition of the New Zealand cultural sequence, patterns of settlement and community, indigenous responses to the impact of Europeans, and the nature of traditional seafaring. These sites are located at Kauri Point Swamp, Oruarangi, Kohika, and Te Miro.
