1. You have stated:
Some who have misgivings about the ruling on apostasy object to the method of ijtihād that is prevalent in the seminaries and argue that a new method of ijtihād should be formulated on the basis of anthropology, cosmology, and new Qur’anic hermeneutics. Whether this claim is true or not requires an independent study and falls outside the scope of this work. What I have penned here is in conformity with the ijtihād method that scholars have used for a thousand years. Therefore, there should be no doubt about the necessity to execute an apostate. In addition, this necessity is neither time-bound nor limited to its sheer political ramifications, although the latter could be one instance of apostasy. The proposed new method of ijtihād would result in changing many legal rulings and thus lead to nothing but the destruction of Islam and taking shelter under the aegis of man-made laws. Over and beyond this, using such a new method will efface the heritage of the Ahl al-Bayt and its jurisprudence.
