Cover Picture: High-frequency stimulation of the olfactory bulb (top right Nissl-stained brain slice, and middle right: T2-RARE image) that results in long-term potentiation in the anterior piriform cortex (middle) dramatically enhances BOLD responses in e.g. olfactory and prefrontal cortex regions (bottom: orange regions). Moreover, nuclear immediate early gene expression (red spots in far left image) is enhanced in olfactory cortex regions but also in prelimbic (PrL) and infralimbic (IL) cortices upon high-frequency stimulation. See Strauch et al. 2022. Olfactory information storage engages subcortical and cortical brain regions that support valence determination. Cereb Cortex 32(4): 689-708.
