A sign that should be looked for in a patient with snoring and suspected sleep apnea is a swollen uvula. The soft palate is also swollen and the uvula may fill the arch of the palate on inspection. (Video 14.1-1).

Swollen uvula. The uvula and soft palate are swollen, almost completely obscuring the posterior pharyngeal wall. The patient had severe obstructive sleep apnea.
