Abstract

A new rhodium(III) complex with o-phenylenediamine, trans-[RhCl2{C6H4(NH2)2}2]ClO4 was synthesized and the reaction with oxidizing agents studied. Due to coordination with the rhodium(III) ion the o-phenylenediamine (opd) was greatly stabilized against oxidation and the complex was oxidized slowly by periodate via intermediate radical complex to bis(o-benzoquinone diimine)dichlororhodium(III) complex which decomposed to the final products.
