Abstract
This chapter considers several examples of how some people successfully meet the challenges of new social learning and how others do not, even when the requisite information is available and the cost of failing to learn is high. These cases highlight those aspects of everyday life that contradict the foundations of much contemporary social and political theory. The analysis also suggests the direction that new theoretical efforts should take.
