Aranda Michaels
I was born in Scarsdale, New York, and since the 1970’s resided in Portland, Oregon where I died in 2010. Most of my life I lived with mental illness. Art was introduced to me as a component of treatment and always was of great help in times of stress. Insight, humor, and, often, stories of my life filled my prolific artwork. I earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and a master’s degree in social psychology, and was extremely articulate, interested in politics, and showed a great concern for others.
