Abstract
Effective dose equivalent and effective dose per unit of fluence have been calculated using the FLUKA code for an anthropomorphic phantom placed in a vacuum and irradiated under various geometrical conditions with electron beams. Calculations have been performed for monoenergetic electrons of energy ranging from 5 MeV to 10 GeV. Only relatively little information has been published up to now on effective dose and effective dose equivalent for electron irradiation. The agreement of the present values with the results of other authors, when existing, is generally satisfactory. A comparison of the results of the present calculations with the ambient dose equivalent shows that the operational quantity practically provides a conservative estimate of the limiting quantities up to about 30 MeV.
