The debut edition of the book Myositis has been released in 2018. After introducing the broad subject of myositis, the authors describe clinical features of the disease subtypes, the differential diagnosis and treatment. The seventeen chapters are presented in such a manner that little prior knowledge on myositis is assumed by the reader.
The book would thus serve well for any clinician looking for a solid starting point on the subject. If you are searching for extensive detail on any one specific subject in the field of myositis this book is probably not for you. Rather, the individual chapters have been written in a to-the-point manner to serve as your first source for rapidly refreshing your knowledge in the coming years.
For instance, the diagnostic approach to a patient with hyperCKaemia is presented with flow-diagrams, recommendations are made on when and how to screen for malignancy in patients with myositis, and clear guidance is provided on the interpretation of the results of some typical investigations including auto-antibodies and muscle biopsies. The individual chapters thereby retain practical use to clinicians providing current care to patients suffering from myositis.
