Giugliano and colleagues explored the relation between consumption of a Mediterranean-type diet and erectile dysfunction (ED) in a population of type 2 diabetic men, and found that greater adherence to Mediterranean diet was associated with a lower prevalence of ED in men with type 2 diabetes [1]. Their findings are in line with a simultaneous report regarding adherence to Mediterranean diet and sexual functions in women [2]. However, we would like to propose a question concerning the data analysis.
As mentioned by the authors in the Methods, associations between a Mediterranean diet score and International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) score were evaluated by using simple linear regression models as well as multiple linear regression. However, either in Table 3 or in the Results, they failed to show the results of regression analysis. Thus, we are eager to know whether there is a correlation between Mediterranean diet score and IIEF score. If an inverse correlation between ED severity and tertiles of adherence to Mediterranean diet could be found, it might justify the consumption of Mediterranean diet as a strategy in ED prevention, or as a supplementary approach in treating ED in diabetic patients.
