Despite the Sexual Medicine Society of North America (SMSNA) and American Urological Association (AUA) recommending against the use of shockwave therapy (SWT) and platelet rich plasma (PRP) outside of a clinical trial, many sexual medicine practices offer these therapies for erectile dysfunction (ED) and Peyronie’s disease (PD).1 Therefore, we aim to understand practice patterns and belief of evidence of SMSNA members in offering penile regenerative procedures.

A multiple-choice anonymous online cross-sectional survey was administered via RedCap from April to November 2023 to current 588 SMSNA members that are urologists or Advance Practice Providers (APPs) currently practicing in the US. We excluded trainees and incomplete surveys. The survey was distributed at SMSNA programming at the AUA annual meeting in April 2023 via quick response (QR) code. SMSNA members received an email with the URL link for the survey in June 2023. A final reminder for survey completion was administered at the SMSNA fall meeting in November 2023 with a QR code and promotion on social media. Indiana University Institutional review board reviewed the survey and the study protocol and deemed this study exempt (IRB 19017).
