Introduction
Few studies address women’s experiences with normal orgasmic function and which factors women report to be important for orgasm.
Objective
To investigate and describe the overall sexual function, sexual satisfaction and sexual behavior level in a group of women. To describe the women’s orgasmic function and orgasm-triggers
Methods
303 North American women aged 18-75 years completed a 100- questionnaire survey, including the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) demographic data and question about sexual satisfaction level, sexual activity and behavior, relationship and the women’s perception on the partner’s sexual function. X2 and MANOVA were performed and a p-value < 0.05 was considered as significant.
Results
The FSFI- scores showed that 41 % of the women were in risk of Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD) due to a cut-off below 26.55. FSFI score was statistically significant negatively correlated to irregular menses, depression, stress, not liking sex, partners unwillingness to sex, too little foreplay and afterplay, low and irregular frequency of sex, poor emotional relationship, dissatisfaction with partners erectile function, ejaculatory control and penile size. 21 % of the women were dissatisfied with their overall sexual life and 24 % with their orgasmic function. Almost 90 % reported a good emotional contact to male partner, that the partner was willing to have sex, satisfaction with partners’ penis size and that he had a good erectile function and ejaculatory control.
