Objective

The efficacy and safety profiles of dapoxetine in men with premature ejaculation (PE) have been well established by global clinical trials. However, there was no reported study thus far on dapoxetine’s effect on semen quality. Young population with PE may have fertility desire; hence it is important to investigate whether dapoxetine treatment has any effect on semen quality. This study compared the semen quality before and after dapoxetine treatment in men without fertility desire, aiming to evaluate the effect of dapoxetine on semen quality.

Methods

This prospective, open, observational study included 40 patients with PE who received dapoxetine treatment on-demand for 24 weeks. All patients had no fertility desire. Semen samples were collected before dapoxetine treatment and within 12 hours after the last dapoxetine taken respectively. Premature ejaculation diagnostic tool (PEDT), self-reported IELT and premature ejaculation profile (PEP), as well as the Clinical Global Impression of Change (CGIC) were used to assess treatment effectiveness of dapoxetine on PE. Sperm concentration, sperm forward mobility and pregnancy event were measured during treatment.
