Abstract
The high order reflection method was applied to Identify coherent precipitates In Cu-Co alloys. The analysis was made by theoretical calculation and experimental observation of strain contrast caused by precipitates. The appropriate conditions in the method turned out to depend strongly upon the reflection to be excited and the accelerating voltage, but weakly depend on the extent of elastic strain. If suitable conditions are chosen, the size and shape of precipitates are determined accurately even In thick specimens, where the weak beam method cannot be effective. The apparent image size of Co precipitates Is smaller for 200 reflection than for 111 because of the many beam effect and elastic an Isotropy. The present analysis showed that the shape of the Co precipitates changes from a sphere to a cube with an Increase In the volume of each precipitate.
