Both the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy and its parent, the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, have taken an active role in promoting antimicrobial stewardship across the globe.
To date, the primary focus has been antibacterials. Antifungals may not be prescribed in such quantities, but they tend to be more expensive and their use is more empirical in a more vulnerable population.
Therefore it is very welcome that CARE has grasped the opportunity to review the evidence available for good antifungal stewardship and presented it in this JAC Supplement.
We hope that this will stimulate all who are involved in the management of invasive fungal infection to reflect on their practice and to share their experience with others.
