The prize for recognizing peer review excellence was inaugurated in 2017 by Debbie Lisle and the previous editorial team. We are very excited to continue this tradition and to acknowledge the work of our peer reviewers during the first year of our editorial term at International Political Sociology. In keeping with the tradition established, the winner receives a pencil case full of red pens to help them with future peer reviews. Our peer reviewers have demonstrated commitment, thoroughness, and care when providing feedback for submitting authors. In an academic context where peer reviewing often goes unacknowledged but is a key form of academic labor, they represent the very best of the profession, which is nourished by us treating each other with professionalism, kindness, and constructive critique. Peer review at its best, whether the submitting author is writing their first academic paper or is a seasoned academic, involves not only the improvement of a manuscript or of a thinking process, but also the building of an ethical relation with colleagues and with the research practice more widely conceived. Our winner and honorable mention provided constructive, detailed, attentive, and encouraging comments. We want to take this opportunity to also thank all of our peer reviewers for their time, engagement, and generosity. With that said, we are delighted to announce the following:
