A larval parasitoid wasp, Dinocampus coccinellae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) emerges from a parasitized host seven-spotted lady beetle (Coccinella septempunctata, Coleoptera: Coccinellidae). The larva will thereon proceed to pupate in a cocoon under the host beetle, immobilizing it, prior to emergence as an adult female. Reproduction proceeds via thelytokous parthenogenesis, with unfertilized eggs developing into adult diploid daughters. See Sethuraman et al., https://doi.org/10.1093/g3journal/jkac001.

The development and characterization of a conditional, epitope-tagged glutamatergic synaptic vesicle for the Drosophila model system is reported. The conditional glutamatergic synaptic vesicle marker, smFLAG-vGlut, is demonstrated to be conditionally expressible, specifically expressed in glutamatergic neurons, and subcellularly localized to glutamatergic synaptic vesicles. Additionally, the utility of smFLAG-vGlut is demonstrated by glutamatergic neurotransmitter phenotyping of 26 different neuron types of the central complex of which nine were determined to be glutamatergic.
