In addition to a healthy lifestyle, we have different pharmacologic agents to target causal lipoproteins. While statins are the first choice in pharmacotherapy, combination therapy with ezetimibe and PCSK9 monoclonal antibodies have also been shown to decrease cardiovascular outcomes in high-risk patients. Fibrates have been shown to reduce residual risk in the subgroup of patients with high triglycerides and low HDL. Several new therapies are being developed to target the causal lipoproteins by different mechanisms.
