Professor Tom Crick

Professor of Digital & Policy, Department of Computer Science, Swansea University, UK

Tom is Professor of Digital & Policy at Swansea University, a joint appointment between the Department of Computer Science and School of Education. While his disciplinary background is in computer science and informatics, his academic interests sit at the research/policy interface: data science, intelligent systems, cyber security, software sustainability, computational reproducibility, digital transformation, science and innovation policy, and infrastructure and skills for the digital/data economy.

He is currently an elected Member-at-Large of ACM Council (2020-present) and Vice-Chair of ACM Europe Council (2019-present), having previously been a Vice-President of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT (2017-2020). He is also a Commissioner of the National Infrastructure Commission for Wales (2018-present).

Tom was appointed MBE in the 2017 Queen’s Birthday Honours for “services to computer science and the promotion of computer science education”. In 2020, he was made a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales, the national academy for science and the arts. He is also a Chartered Fellow of the BCS and the IET, and a Distinguished Speaker and Senior Member of the ACM.
