Conflict of interest: the authors declare that they have no conflicts of interest.
Benign peripheral nerve sheath tumours include neurofibroma, schwannoma and perineurioma. Perineurioma is far less common than the other two. Recently, peripheral nerve sheath tumours showing discrete areas of more than one histological type have been described.1 To our knowledge, there have to date been 8 reports (61 cases) of hybrid schwannoma/perineurioma in the skin.1,2,3,4,5 However, no previous report of this tumour has included ultrasonography images. We describe the first case, to our knowledge, of a hybrid peripheral nerve sheath tumour with intermingled perineuriomatous and schwannomatous areas reflected in the ultrasonography image of the skin.
A 19‐year‐old Japanese woman presented with a 2‐year history of nodule on her left thigh. On physical examination, a well‐circumscribed, skin‐coloured, dome‐shaped, slightly elastic, hard subcutaneous nodule, measuring 15 × 15 mm in diameter, was seen on the patient's left thigh. The nodule was not painful or tender (Fig. 1a).
