About the Journal

The Journals of Gerontology® were the first journals on aging published in the United States. The tradition of excellence in these peer-reviewed scientific journals, established in 1946, continues today. The Journals of Gerontology, Series A® is a monthly journal of The Gerontological Society of America that publishes within its covers the Journal of Gerontology: Biological Sciences and the Journal of Gerontology: Medical Sciences.

JOURNAL OF GERONTOLOGY: BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES, Gustavo Duque, MD, PhD, FRACP, FGSA, Editor-in-Chief

The Journal of Gerontology: Biological Sciences publishes articles on the biological aspects of aging in areas such as translational gerontology, biomarkers of aging, biochemistry, biodemography, cellular and molecular biology, comparative and evolutionary biology, endocrinology, exercise sciences, genetics, immunology, neuroscience, nutrition, pathology, pharmacology, physiology, and the biological mechanisms of late life diseases. Biological insights gleaned in studies from invertebrates, vertebrates, and mammalian species including humans will be considered. The journal is particularly interested in publishing research on translational gerontology including interventions designed to enhance longevity and healthspan.

JOURNAL OF GERONTOLOGY: MEDICAL SCIENCES, Lewis Lipsitz, MD, FGSA, Editor-in-Chief

The Journal of Gerontology: Medical Sciences publishes articles on health-related aspects of human aging. Topics of interest may range from biomarkers of aging, multisystem physiology of aging, multimorbidity, age-related disability including the cognitive, physical and psychological aspects of function, novel aging populations such as ethnic and racial minorities or the oldest old, global health and aging, healthy aging and health span, frailty, geriatric syndromes, environmental effects on health, and clinical trials of drugs, devices, policies, procedures, and health services. Appropriate designs include observational studies, clinical trials, basic biology or physiology in human subjects, and health services research. All health-related disciplines are welcome. Types of articles include original research, research practice, brief reports, and reviews in depth, guest editorials and letters to the editor. The journal is especially interested in translational research that addresses the functional consequences of aging biology and/or age-related disease, and novel interventions designed to slow and prevent functional decline and improve health outcomes.

The Gerontological Society of America (GSA)

GSA is the oldest and largest interdisciplinary organization devoted to research, education, and practice in the field of aging. GSA’s principal mission — and that of its 5,500 members — is to advance the study of aging and disseminate information among scientists, decision makers, and the general public.

The Society, founded in 1945, is the driving force behind the advancement of gerontology both domestically and internationally. Its members come from more than 50 countries.

GSA fosters collaboration between biologists, health professionals, policymakers, and behavioral and social scientists. GSA believes the intersection of research from diverse areas is the best way to achieve the greatest impact and promote healthy aging.
