On 16 Sep 2022, an insecticide efficacy trial was conducted at the Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville, Mississippi to evaluate 10 foliar-applied insecticides for control of the redbanded stinkbug (RBSB) compared to an untreated control. Plot size was 4 rows (40 in centers) by 40 feet. Treatments were replicated 4 times in a randomized complete block design. All plots received insecticide applications via a MUDMASTER 4WD Multi-Purpose Sprayer (Bowman manufacturing, Newport, AR), equipped with a compressed air spray system calibrated to deliver 10 GPA through TX-6 hollow cone nozzles (2/row). Treatments included the following: Acephate 90S, Endigo ZCX, Brigade 2EC, Wrangler, Leverage 360, Belay, Brigade 2EC + Acephate 90S, Brigade 2EC + Wrangler, Leverage 360 + Acephate 90S, and Brigade 2EC + Belay. Redbanded stinkbug populations were evaluated at 3, 6, 10, and 14 days after treatment (DAT) by sampling 1 of the center 2 rows with a 15-inch diameter sweep net (25 sweeps per plot). Data were analyzed with ANOVA and means were separated using Fisher’s protected LSD (P ≤ 0.05).

At 3 DAT, all insecticide treatments, except for Wrangler and Belay, resulted in significantly lower RBSB populations compared to the untreated check (Table 1). At 6 DAT, all insecticide-treated plots had fewer RBSB populations compared to the untreated check, except for those treated with Wrangler. At 10 DAT, all insecticide treatments, except for Wrangler and Belay, reduced RBSB populations compared to the untreated check. Plots treated with Leverage 360 + Acephate or Brigade + Acephate had significantly lower RBSB populations than plots treated with Brigade, Wrangler, or Belay. At 14 DAT, plots treated with Wrangler had significantly higher RBSB numbers compared to the untreated check. Plots treated with Acephate, Leverage 360, Brigade + Acephate, and Leverage 360 + Acephate had significantly lower RBSB populations compared to plots treated with Wrangler and the untreated check. Plots treated with Endigo ZCX, Brigade, Belay, Brigade + Wrangler, and Brigade + Belay did not statistically differ from the untreated check.1
