History in Focus, a podcast by the American Historical Review, recently released the latest entry in its podcast collaboration series. AfriWetu offers a thoughtful and accessible entrypoint to African history for all kinds of listeners with the hope, as Mona says at the top of each episode, that listeners will be inspired to find out more for themselves. In this collaboration, host Daniel Story speaks with Mona Nyambura Muchemi, the host and producer of a terrific and thoughtful African history podcast called AfriWetu. The following transcript of their conversation has been minimally edited for length and clarity. The full episode can be found at https://www.historians.org/podcast/afriwetu-host-mona-nyambura-muchemi.

Daniel Story: Hi Mona. To begin, can I get you to introduce yourself, say your name, and maybe a line or two about who you are?

Mona Nyambura Muchemi: Sure, my name is Mona Nyambura Muchemi. I am a storyteller—an African storyteller—and I tell the story of our ancient African ancestors. And I tell these stories in order to bring them back to life, and in order to inspire generations of Africans with the stories of their past and to know where they’re coming from. I should add that our tagline is “rooted in our story,” because I would like people to think about where it is that they come from and feel a sense of pride as to their ancestral history.
