Age and Ageing is the journal of the British Geriatrics Society, the membership association for professionals specialising in the healthcare of older people across the UK. BGS Membership
The British Geriatrics Society is the association for professionals working in the healthcare of older people across the UK. We are the only society in the UK offering expertise in the healthcare of older people, and providing a national voice for specialists working in this field.
Our membership is truly multidisciplinary. It includes consultant geriatricians, nurses, GPs, old age psychiatrists, allied healthcare professionals, and researchers. Everyone specialising in the healthcare of older people is welcome to join!

BGS Events and CPD
The BGS offers a varied programme of regional and national events for professionals in the care of older people. There are two major UK conferences each year and many smaller regional and sub-specialty events that you can attend in person or virtually to count towards Continuing Professional Development. BGS News and commentary
The BGS is a leading voice in debates about healthcare for older people. We represent our members and the specialty of geriatrics in policy debates and media outreach relating to healthcare for older people. The BGS Blog offers news, hot topics, and opinion pieces from experts in this field. In addition to a general monthly e-Bulletin for a digest of news, there is also a range of regional and specialist topic e-Bulletins. You can subscribe here.
BGS Resources and e-Learning
The BGS produces, and collaborates on, clinical and research resources for the healthcare of older people. Our resource library has over 400 items and is updated regularly. The BGS website also hosts e-Learning modules.
BGS Policy
The BGS is a strong advocate for better care for older people. We use our expertise to offer insights from clinical practice to inform the design and delivery of services. We seek to influence national and regional policy, collaborating with decision-makers to ensure older people’s needs are addressed through the provision of person-centred, high-quality care. BGS Research
As a subscriber/reader of Age and Ageing, we know you are interested in research. The BGS aims to promote research into older people’s health and healthcare, encouraging the development of research skills and of academic geriatric medicine. Through our communications we support the dissemination of research evidence into applied practice.
