Abstract
This chapter recounts the beginnings of establishing a new Reformed Kirk in Scotland, following the Congregation's victory in 1560. When in Geneva, Knox had discussed with Calvin and the other pastors the problems of establishing Protestant churches. With the leaders of the English-speaking exile congregation, he had constructed a British strategy aiming for the long-term goal of shared Protestantism and friendship uniting the Tudor state with the Stewart kingdom. That team also produced the community of texts that an English-speaking Reformed church would need to start functioning: a Bible, a psalter, and a form of prayers alongside the experience and practice of the “example of Geneva”. Even if he had done nothing else, the package of essential items Knox introduced to his native land would transform Scottish Protestantism.
