The lower bottom of the box represents the first quartile Q₁. The upper bottom of the box represents the third quartile Q₃. The difference between Q₃ and Q₁ is the IQR (interquartile range): IQR = Q₃ − Q₁. The lines above and below the box are called the upper and lower limits, corresponding to the values Q₃ + 1.5IQR and Q₁ − 1.5IQR, respectively. The height of the box and the distance between the upper limit and the lower limit can reflect the degree of uncertainty dispersion to some extent.
