The unconditioned and conditioned expected values of X(tobs) (E[X(tobs)] and Ez[X(tobs)], respectively), are plotted against the initial frequency, a/N, for the Wright–Fisher model described in this work. The expected values were calculated from equation (17), when different selection coefficients were used in the unconditioned and conditioned expected values. The following parameter values were adopted: population size N=500, equal forward and backward mutation rates: μ=ν=10−5, observation time tobs=200, observation threshold z=5 (hence z/N=1%).
