B1–B5 indicate the strength of subsequent shocks and Beff is the final value of the effective shock parameter, defined in equation (49) so that the effect of the whole shock history is equivalent to a single shock with this parameter. Shock histories that were sampled from the distribution of histories are indicated by a B*. Those that were accidentally sorted in descending order are marked with an ‘S’, whereas unsorted ones are indicated by a ‘U’.
