Phase 1. Share information | On a slight tangent, with regard to the last point I think that Piaget would argue that the children involved need to be in their concrete operational period (over age 7) for this dialog to be meaningful (since before that time they are to egocentric to view from another’s perspective). | 545 | 65 | 63 | 57 | 32 | 86 | 640 | 65 |
Phase 2. Discover inconsistencies | The only issue I’ve got with this is that it seems to go against what Vygotsky advocates about when to use peer tutoring, doesn’t it? | 124 | 15 | 20 | 18 | 0 | 0 | 144 | 79 |
Phase 3. Negotiate meaning | What do y’all think? Am I on the right track? | 56 | 7 | 13 | 12 | 0 | 0 | 69 | 7 |
Phase 4. Propose compromise | As a side note I seem to remember reading some research at one time that said that peer tutoring was beneficial for the tutorer, but not really for the tutoree (the kid being tutored). The tutorer gets to restate their knowledge and all of that other higher order thinking skills stuff, but the tutoree might just end up being confused by a fellow student who does not know any teaching skills. | 12 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 12 | 1 |
Phase 5. Agree on compromise | After taking Piaget’s point of view for the thought activity this week, I agree with many of you that he would not suggest using peer tutoring in this situation. | 21 | 2 | 3 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 24 | 2 |
