Abstract

Environmental dosimetry is a field which includes very different aspects of describing the distribution and fluxes of radioactive materials and natural and artificial radiation sources in the environment as well as the relationships to doses in man and other species. The paper describes the integrated approach of the joint Concerted Action of the three organisations European Late Effect Group (EULEP), European Radiation Dosimetry Group (EURADOS) and International Union of Radioecology (IUR) which has been carried out and supported within the radiation protection research programme of the Fourth Frame Work Programme of the European Commission running from 1997 to 1999. An overview is given on the structure of the Concerted Action and the specific tasks in environmental dosimetry are described which have been performed during this action.
