Abstract
Neoformation of flower buds was studied in thin cell layers derived from floral branches of Nicotiana tabacum L. Organogenesis was found to be expressed in different ways according to the kind of auxin and cytokinin present in the culture medium. In the presence of synthetic auxins (NAA, CTA), more flower buds were generated than with the natural auxins (IAA, IBA), if the culture medium was also supplemented with a cytokinin. These conditions also stimulated the development of the buds to flowers or inflorescences. The most active cytokinin was BA. Natural cytokinins (zeatin, IPA) appeared much less active but led to remarkable development of roots together with flower buds. An organogenetic effect of 2,4-D was observed in this experimental system, leading to the conclusion that organogenetic activity of cytokinins and auxins in thin cell layer cultures strongly depends on the molecular structure of the growth regulators.
