Abstract
We report on a water maser survey in the Andromeda galaxy (M 31). The surveyed H II regions with |$^{12}$|CO clouds are expected to be regions of ongoing star formation with water maser activity. Nevertheless, we could not detect any water maser emission with an upper limit of around 0.35 Jy or |$4.9\times 10^{-3}\,L_{ {\odot }}$| in isotropic luminosity. These results indicate a low activity of the present star formation in M 31.
