Abstract
This chapter focuses on a main outstanding problem faced by the cognitive sciences—understanding how ongoing conscious experience is related to its biological and physical roots. Providing an essential experimental framework for the research into consciousness, the recent development of large-scale brain imaging techniques such as electroencephalography and the progress made in mathematical analysis of neuronal signals have been a boon to the scientific community. Based on a new neurophenomenological circulation, some of the ongoing work concerning epilepsy is reviewed here. Special attention is paid to interdependence of neurodynamic and phenodynamic structures associated with the beginning of an epileptic seizure—the so-called epileptic aura.
